EIF-Services is currently investigating various ways to set up an AWS cluster.
A first experiment based on ParallelCluster (launched in 2018) led to an issue already noticed elsewhere.
A second try using Parallel Computing Service (launched in 2024) was more successful: the getting started section of the AWS PCS documentation was accomplished without any problem, using the AWS region eu-west-1
(Ireland).
The next step will probably involve getting some acquaintance with OpenFOAM, since this open source Computational Fluid Dynamics software is used in various AWS tutorials (e.g. here or there).
We will then try to setup on AWS a HPC solution for our preferred CFD software: Basilisk.
N.B. The open source CFD softwares OpenFOAM and Basilisk are rather complementary: OpenFOAM is an industry standard but Basilisk is more research oriented.
